Twenty-six years of community media — 302+ magazine issues, 320+ video productions, and 1,400+ interviews — are being entrusted to a nonprofit built to hold them in the public interest. We are inviting a small founding board to help protect and carry that work forward.
KCED Foundation Inc. is establishing its founding board of directors — the people who will steward a working newsroom and archive on behalf of the community it serves. This is a formative moment: a chance to shape governance, priorities, and the safeguards that keep this media independent and public-interest for the long term.
Founding board members join early — as the Foundation’s governance takes shape — and help decide how this legacy is held and passed on.

Public-interest media takes both stewards and makers. We are forming our founding team in tiers — each with a distinct role in protecting and producing the work. Only Tier 1 serves as the voting Board of Directors; Tiers 2–4 support the Foundation in defined, non-governing roles.

Specialist guidance and open doors, without a fiduciary vote.

A founding gift to help launch the institution — acknowledged by name only, with no editorial control or promotional claims.
Founding Trustees support KCED Foundation through personal philanthropy and by expanding the Foundation’s network of mission-aligned supporters.
Board Member Philanthropic Contribution
An annual personal philanthropic contribution in support of KCED Foundation’s independent, public-interest mission. No fixed amount is required; each Trustee is asked to make the Foundation a meaningful philanthropic priority according to their capacity.
Board-Sourced Sponsorship / Underwriting
Helping secure mission-aligned sponsorships, underwriting, grants, and donor relationships through professional, institutional, and community networks.
Protecting editorial independence is a core fiduciary duty of the Board.
KCED Foundation and KORISE determine public-interest value independently. Partners and sponsors help make the reporting possible, but have no role in editorial selection, reporting, conclusions, or final approval. Public-interest review and partnership support are kept structurally separate — in our governance, our systems, and our public reporting.

Our production capacity grows its own.
Each summer, the KCED Youth Broadcasting Camp trains the next generation in camera, editing, audio, and storytelling. Its graduates form a volunteer student crew that supports real productions year-round — mentored by the Founding Production Circle. It is how a twenty-six-year archive keeps being made, and how the work outlives any one person.
With federal 501(c)(3) recognition now granted, the Founder is executing a formal Deed of Gift transferring the studio equipment, video and photo archives, Mom&I and KORISE content and intellectual property, YouTube and digital channels, and brand rights to KCED Foundation.
KCED Foundation Inc. is a New Jersey nonprofit corporation. It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, classified under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). EIN 42-3500250. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
