Corrections & Clarifications

KCED Foundation publishes for readers who often cannot verify what we tell them against an English-language source. That places a higher obligation on us, not a lower one. When we are wrong, we say so plainly, in the same place and the same language in which we published the error.

How we respond

1. We acknowledge every report within two business days.
2. We verify the claim against our own reporting records, including recordings and source documents.
3. We publish the outcome within five business days of confirming an error, or explain the delay if verification requires more time.
4. We notify the person who reported the error of the outcome, whether or not a correction results.

What we publish

Correction

A factual error. We state what was wrong, what is correct, and the date of the original publication. Corrections appear on the article or program page itself and are not removed.

Clarification

Reporting that was accurate but open to misreading. We explain what was unclear and restate it.

Update

New information that changes an ongoing story. Marked with the date and time of the change.

Translation correction

An error introduced in translation rather than in the original reporting. We identify it as such, because the distinction matters to readers relying on the translated version.

What we do not do

We do not quietly delete or rewrite published material to remove an error. We do not remove accurate reporting on request, including requests from advertisers, underwriters, donors, or government offices. A correction is a public record and stays public.

Complaints beyond corrections

Concerns about fairness, conflict of interest, or the Foundation's editorial independence — as distinct from a factual error — may be addressed to the Editorial Independence Committee, a majority-external body of journalists and scholars that reviews the Foundation's editorial policies and reports to the Board of Trustees. Write to media@kcedfoundation.org with "Editorial Independence Committee" in the subject line.

The Committee does not adjudicate individual complaints and does not order corrections. It reads what arrives and reports patterns to the Board, and it publishes an annual statement on the state of the newsroom's independence, which the Foundation publishes unedited.

Who is responsible

Editorial judgment, including the decision to correct, rests with the Foundation's editorial leadership. No donor, underwriter, sponsor, partner institution, or government office has any right of review prior to publication or approval over content.
